01 - Finally Here

My Canon EOS 5D MKII arrived last week - Haven't had the chance to use it, but hopefully will be able to over the next week or so. I've been doing lots of overtime at work and have been too tired to go out and play.

So the lenses I eventually decided on were the Canon 17-40mm F/4L USM www.usa.canon.com/consumer/con… and the Canon 85mm F/1.8 USM www.usa.canon.com/consumer/con… Fortunately for me the company I bought the lenses from messed up the order and sent me the Canon 85mm F1.2L II USM lens www.usa.canon.com/consumer/con… , which is 5 times as expensive as the one I ordered. BONUS! Both lenses are pretty amazing from what ive seen of them so far, although they have just been snap shots around the house, the image clarity is unbelievable. So far I highly recommend the 'L' range from canon. Although VERY heavy, The 85mm 1.2 in particular is stunning - the sharpness of subject and background blur is quite amazing.

Im starting to think about the weight I'm gonna have to carry around with me when I leave on my trip in 8 weeks, and all lenses lenses dont help this, especially when I've decided to take my Sigma 10-20 along with me too. I know its not supposed to fit the Canon 5d MkII. with it being a full frame lens. I have noticed the amazing fish eye effect I get with it - it does create a pretty big black vignette around the edges of the photo but its looks pretty creative and cant bare to leave it  it home, just incase i need it for something cool.

01 - Nearly There!
Only three month to go until my trip starts - Cant wait!!!

I've nearly got everything sorted for leaving, but the main thing I need to make a decision about is what camera/lenes to buy.

At the moment Ive got a Canon E0S 300D with a Canon EF18-55mm Lens and a Sigma 10-20mm Lens.

I've been wanting to upgrade my camera for about a year now as Id like to take the next step toward making a career out of photography. The 300D is a great camera, dont get me wrong but there are a lot better ones out there now... i got it around 5 years ago and and its only 6.3 megapixel.

One camera that has caught my eye is the Canon 5D Mark II - at £1800 it isnt cheap, which I dont mind when considering what im going to get out of it over the next few years. My only problem with the 5D Mark II is an issue regarding lenses.

I love taking wide angle photos and probably 80-90% of the photos i take are at maximum frame. The sigma wide angle lens I have at the moment works great with the 300D, however it isnt compatible with the 5D - it causes a massive vignette on the photos - so this means if i get the %d - i'll need to get some lenses as well.

Basically what im asking is; With wide angle landscapes in mind, which lens do you think I should get for the 5DII ?

or should i go for a completely different camera so i can still use my current lenses?

The images below show the sort of wide angles Im hoping to achieve with the 5d - do you think it will be possible??:

01 - Trip Confirmed

Ive just confirmed my flights! I leave on another around-the-world trip March 31st - I fly into Toronto MArch 31st fromf there I'm taking the bus to Quebec, hopefully taking about 3-4 weeks, stopping along the weay. After that I come down into USA via Boston, New York, Philli and then over to Chicago - taking about 4 weeks. Then I take 4 weeks to travel accross to LA and then 3-4 weeks to get to Vancouver and west Canada for a flight out to Sydney.

Ive got a 6 months visa in Oz, but I dont think I'll be able to afford to stay that long so Im going over to New Zealand to see if I can get a job for a year before coming home via India!

If you guys could give me any recommendations on cheap places to stay/ good photo opportunities, I'd be very grateful.

Im also planning on buying a car/van/4x4 in Australia. I start in Melbourne/Sydney and drive over to Perth Via Adelaide, the up To Broome and over to Darwin, Uluru then Cairns where I hope to sell the vehicle.
Taking around 4-5 months in total... if you know anybody that you think would be interested in buying something with me or has a spare seat in their car and would like to share the trip of a lifetime! let me know!

Cheers guys ;)
